Westside’s Hollis Innovation Academy Unveiled as Home to New School-Based Health Clinic
On Friday, Oct. 20, Atlanta Public Schools kicked off its #StateofAPS festivities with the unveiling of its latest school-based health clinic in the district!
Located within the Westside’s M.R. Hollis Innovation Academy, the Care Center will offer students and their families a host of services typical of a family doctor’s office, including acute and chronic illness diagnosis, health checks, immunizations, a laboratory, behavioral health services and dental care. The Center is expected to serve 400 patients in the first year, and will eventually serve nearly 1,000 per year. No one will be denied services based on the inability to pay.
The Chick-fil-A Foundation, Dobbs Foundation, Dr. Veda Johnson, the Arthur M. Blank Foundation, Chris180, HEALing Community Health and Moody Construction have helped to make the Care Center possible.
“We’re so proud to show our continued support of APS with the new Care Center at Hollis Innovation Academy. Our goal is to help the Westside become a place of indigenous thriving, and that begins with providing children and their families with access to quality education and services, like healthcare,” says Rodney Bullard, Vice President of Community Affairs at Chick-fil-A and Executive Director of the Chick-fil-A Foundation.
John Ahmann of the Westside Future Fund says that public-private partnerships like this one help provide the critical resources needed for the Westside’s historic neighborhoods to thrive. The resulting initiatives promote community health and wellness as well as cradle-to-career education, two of Westside Future Fund’s key impact areas for improving quality of life in the Historic Westside.
A community cannot be truly healthy unless its residents, including the next generation of residents, are healthy. Access to wellness facilities – like the new Care Center – and high-quality education – like at Hollis Innovation Academy – meet critical needs, strengthen our city and help residents lead better lives.” – John Ahmann, Westside Future Fund
The Care Center will officially open November 1.
