The Foundation will kick-off the weekend of festivities with Westside Future Fund’s August 3 Transform Westside Summit.
Dave Wilkinson, president and CEO of the Foundation, will be joined by Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields for an update on the Westside Security Plan, which includes the At-Promise Youth Center as one of its major initiatives.
On Saturday, August 4, the Foundation will host a community-wide block party (details below) in celebration of the Center’s anniversary and the impact it has made in the community over the last year.
The At-Promise Youth Center, located in historic English Avenue, is a state-of-the-art learning and community facility with specialized services for youth and a gathering place for residents, group activities and other purposes. As the cornerstone of the Atlanta Police Foundation’s youth crime reduction initiative, the facility serves on average up to 150 youth per year, with specialized programming for youth and young adults ages 12 to 24 who reside on Atlanta’s Westside.
“What the Atlanta Police Foundation has been able to achieve in the two years since the launch of the Westside Security Plan is nothing short of impressive,” said John Ahmann, executive director of Westside Future Fund, “from the opening of the At-Promise Youth Center just eight months after its groundbreaking to already showing a 40 percent decrease in crime. Their holistic approach to public safety has also been hugely successful in driving impact in other areas of our revitalization strategy, from affordable housing to education. Their strong presence has also created a great sense of community and pride in our four historic Westside neighborhoods. We are proud to have them as partners.”
