Progress from the Collective Effort: Historic Westside Gardens innovates and builds with community
Historic Westside Gardens (HWG) is dedicated to give power to individuals in the Westside neighborhoods to grow their own food and strengthen their community. To that end, HWG has two new initiatives this spring. With the introduction of “Community Design Cycle,” a process which involves community members in major organizational decisions, HWG is focused on physical accessibility at the Hope with Garden Community Gardening hub.
With the support of Food Well Alliance, Project Healthy Wealth Grown launched as well, which will train a cohort of gardeners to sell their produce locally. The Garden Angels will be implementing Healthy Wealth Grown Local, which embodies a vision that goes beyond planting gardens toward “neighborhood economics.”
