Transform Westside Summit March 17, 2017
Featured Presentation: Raising Expectations’ Community Youth Panel
Westside-based nonprofit Raising Expectations (RE) hosted a panel of 10 young residents, ages 15-20, in an enlightening discussion around the Westside revitalization efforts. The panelists shared their perceptions and perspectives, offering a unique, often unheard voice from the community.
About Raising Expectations: Raising Expectations has served the Westside community since 2004 and is rooted in the philosophy that children will either live up to or down to the expectations set for them. RE supports this belief by providing its students with educational support outside of the classroom, while also exposing them to experiences that broaden their life lens and regularly engaging them in enrichment activities that support their personal development. The organization’s mission is to empowers youth in crises by raising academic, social and civic expectations to facilitate high school graduation and post-secondary plans.
In addition to our featured presentation, Summit attendees were introduced to the “Healing the Westside” Community Health Worker program – an initiative of the Westside Health Collaborative. Click here to learn more about the program.
Special thank you to our Summit sponsor Chick-fil-A and to Adrienne Sherwood of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for leading our morning devotion.*
The Transform Westside Summit is held on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month and is free and open to the public. Registration for future Summits is available on the main Events page of our website.
*Many in our community are driven by their spiritual faith to participate in the Westside revitalization effort. The time at the beginning of our meetings is an opportunity to share various inspirational reflections. While the speakers may articulate their personal faith, it is meant to be inclusive, inspiring and meaningful. All are welcome.
